About CHAWNGTE SECTION
Chawngte Section is among the first 10 Pastor Sections in Lunglei District. It was established in 1979 by the District Conference as an independent section carved out of Lungsen Section. The Section Headquarters, Chawngte, is located approximately 96 km from Lunglei.
The jurisdiction extends upwards toward Lunglei up to Lalnutui. The local churches currently under this section include: Chawngte 'L', Lungrang 'S', Dinthar Lungrang, Lungrang (Upper), and Lalnutui. Additionally, there is the Zehtet Field within the section, with established churches in Zehtet, Buknuam, and Mautlang.
Section History and Details
The first Section Pastor was Rev. Saidawla, who assumed charge on April 1, 1979. During his tenure, churches were established under his administration in the following villages: Chawngte, Lungrang, Zehtet, Vaisam, Buknuam, Runtung, and Thangte (along with a few members in Thangpui and Chithar).
Churches were also established in Mautlang, Samang, and Sailen during that period. Currently, active churches no longer exist in Sailen and Samang. Shortly after the inauguration of the section, Lungrang was temporarily attached to Lungsen section for a brief period. Following administrative adjustments, Runtung was attached to the Lunglei area section, while Lungrang remained permanently within Chawngte Section.
During the tenure of Rev. PC. Nghakliana, although a church was not formally established in Lalnutui, 1 or 2 households were present. Vaisam was included in the section from Chawngte, and 1 or 2 households were also reported in Buknuam and Zehtet. During Rev. R. Lalrosanga's tenure, Vaisam was placed under the Headquarters Section and was later transferred to Lungmual Section. The current Pastor's Quarters plot was purchased from the late Pu Lalkhuma, Forester, Zotlang.
