FORMATION AND EARLY DAYS OF BUNGHMUN DISTRICT

This district is situated in the north-west of Lunglei. During the first Lunglei District Conference in May 1966, it was inaugurated as ‘Thenhlum District’, with Zabuaia appointed as the Pastor. In December 1967, the District Board appointed an Evangelist at a salary of Rs. 30 per month to assist the large pastoral district. Similar to the current division between Bunghmun District and Sertlangpui District, the Bunghmun section was overseen by Evan. Lalhranga.

In April 1968, Evan. Lalhranga was appointed as the District Pastor. Due to the political unrest in Mizoram, the inhabitants of Thenhlum were grouped together at Kawnpui in 1969, and Pastor Lalhranga migrated towards Buarpui. During this period, it was named ‘Buarpui District’. In March 1971, due to famine hardships, the district operations were temporarily dissolved.

It was merged under Haulawng District for a period. In February 1973, it was re-opened under the name ‘Thenhlum District’ (In 1979, it was named ‘Thorang District’). As time passed, it was deemed appropriate for the Pastor to reside in an administrative headquarters or larger town; thus in 1981, the Headquarters Centre was shifted to Bunghmun, and it officially became ‘Bunghmun District’.

PASTOR QUARTERS

1. FIRST PASTOR QUARTER:
Various initiatives were taken when the Pastor Quarter was shifted from Thenhlum to Bunghmun. Before shifting from Thenhlum Headquarter to Bunghmun, it was already resolved to construct a new quarter. When Pastor PC. Lalrosanga began leading the district using Bunghmun as Headquarters in February 1981, the construction of the Pastor Quarter commenced immediately. On November 21, 1981, the Pastor Quarter building was officially occupied.

2. SECOND PASTOR QUARTER:
In 1987, a private house was purchased for Rs 15,000.00 to serve as the Pastor Quarter. In 1995, it was resolved to repair the Pastor Quarter, and work was undertaken in 1997.

3. THIRD PASTOR QUARTER:
On 15.3.1997, Resolution No. 2 of the 24th Conference resolved to construct a new Pastor Quarter. A budget of Rs 2000.00 was allocated for 1997. A Pastor Quarter Building Board was established and tasked with overseeing the Quarter construction. Resolution No. 1 of the 29th Conference, expecting the completion of the Pastor Quarter, allocated a budget of Rs 16000.00 for the year 2002. Under the leadership of the District Pastor, a fine quarter with major structural pillars and frameworks made of Cement Concrete was built.

4. FOURTH PASTOR QUARTER:
As resolved by the District Board to 'reconstruct the Pastor Quarters within the year 2021', District Superintendent Rev. C. Vanlalena laid the foundation stone on April 26, 2021. Under the joint efforts of District Pastor Lalengzauva and the district members, a proper Pastor Quarter was constructed. On May 16, 2022, District Superintendent Rev. C. Vanlalena officially inaugurated it.

PRESENT STATUS

Under God's guidance, Bunghmun District continues to progress. Currently, there are 4 Local Churches (Bunghmun, Tleu, Sesawm Vengchhak, Sesawm Vengthlang) and one Preaching Point at Laisawral. As of 2025, the total membership stands at 554.
