About KHAWNGBAWK LOCAL
Khawngbawk Local Church was established on October 1, 1961, spearheaded by Pu Lawngkuanga, Pu Thansanga, and Pu Lalauva, starting with around 20 members. These three individuals were the first to receive baptism. Pu Thansanga came from a background of serving in another church and was immediately included among the first Elders.
Regarding how Khawngbawk Local UPC came to be established: while Pu Zabuaia was ministering in the eastern region, God revealed to him that a church was to be established on the hill of Khawngbawk, and that great blessings would be received upon its establishment. Thus, from his place of ministry in Lungchhuan village, he came to minister in Khawngbawk village.
When Evan. Zabuaia arrived on the Khawngbawk hill preaching the Word, the Baptist Church was unwilling to engage him. However, since there were quite a few people who were eager to hear his ministry, open-air services were held. His preaching was filled with spiritual power. Though some wanted to engage him inside the church building, the majority of the church leaders were opposed, so he could not be engaged there at all. After spending about a month ministering, a good number of people came to accept his teachings. In his ministry, Pu Zabuaia's main themes were the Oneness of God and the imminent Second Coming of the Lord Jesus. At that time, he was not yet officially a full minister of the UPC.
When the Church was thus established, a number of members joined immediately, including:
| 1. Pu Thansanga | 2. Pu Zachhinga |
| 3. Pu Lawngkuanga | 4. Pu Dahniala |
| 5. Pu Lalauva | 6. Pu Biaksanga |
| 7. Pu Haukhama | 8. Pu Lalthanga |
| 9. Pu Laibuanga | 10. Pu Vanlalngaia |
Following the establishment of the Church, they also erected a church building as best as they could. The site where the Church was established was not the present Khawngbawk village location, but rather the old village site. In the beginning, they suffered immense contempt from people; young men were even mocked with taunts that they would never find wives. Prior to the 1966 insurgency, they had constructed a church building, which was burned down completely by soldiers. After this, they constructed several church buildings over time, and the current church building where they worship was constructed in 2012, marking the 5th church building they have established.
In the beginning, the Church received abundant blessings from God. When the congregation was filled with spiritual joy and sang, they would repeat songs frequently—sometimes repeating a song more than 40 times. Apart from the aid of the Holy Spirit, to outside onlookers, it might have seemed tedious and tiring. Today, however, several church members have migrated away, some have passed away, and the senior members of the Church are now advanced in age and frail; thus, membership has declined rather than grown. Furthermore, with key figures and pioneers like Elder Liankhama and his wife having passed away, the Church has been left quite vulnerable. At present, there are approximately 30 church members.
