Formation of Theiriat Section :

Resolution No. 1 of the 25th District Conference of United Pentecostal Church NEI, Lunglei District, held in 1990, resolved that 'Chanmari Section be divided.' It resolved that worker recruitment and boundary settlement be entrusted to the District Board. At this time, what we call 'Headquarters Section' was called 'Chanmari Section,' which encompassed all of present-day Luangmual Section and Theiriat Section.

Thus, following up through Resolution No. 4 of the 87th District Board held on April 30th, 1990, it resolved that 'Theiriat' be designated as the Section Centre, and the covered villages shall be Theiriat, Hrangchalkawn, Thaizawl, Bualte, Sairep, Hlumte, Zobawk, Dawn, and Ralvawng.

First Pastor :

Resolution No. 6 of the 87th District Board appointed Pastor R. Lalrosanga, who was then serving as the Pangzawl Section Pastor, as the first Section Pastor; as resolved, he assumed responsibility on June 1, 1990, and moved in with his entire family during the month of June. Furthermore, the District Board appointed Bro. C. Chawnthuama as the first Theiriat Section Secretary/Treasurer.

Regarding Pastor Quarters :

When Pastor R. Lalrosanga and his family first moved in, the present plot of Pu C. Malsawma was where Pu Biakkima's house stood; they moved in there and rented it for Rs. 300/- per month. After staying there for barely a month, Pu Sangkunga (Pu Vala), a teacher, transferred towards Hrangchalkawn, and as his house became vacant, the Section Church negotiated as best as they could and fortunate enough to purchase it for Rs. 7,000/-. This house was built in an L-Shape, with a corrugated iron roof, wooden planking up to the skirting, bamboo woven walls, and a cement floor.

It required extensive repair, so work drives were organized to renovate the Quarters; for this renovation, Pu Thangtawna generously allowed them to cut his bamboo, for which the congregation was deeply grateful.

As time went on, the Quarters needed to be rebuilt, and around 1996-1997, during Rev. Lalchhara's tenure in the Section, a proper Pastor Quarters was constructed using an earthen floor foundation. Through the zealous efforts of the Section members and Theiriat Local, it was constructed and completed promptly for occupation.

Exchange of Pastor Quarters Site :

On September 16, 2010, the house of Pu S. Lalnunthanga, LSC 776 of 1986 (currently occupied), was exchanged by paying an additional Rs. 1,90,000/- (One lakh ninety thousand). It is an RCC structure, and although the site and building are somewhat small, the upper and lower floors were renovated and repaired multiple times.

Current Pastor Quarters Acquisition :

The Pastor Quarters currently under construction was the house of Pu F. Lalramtiama; with the District paying an additional Rs. 5,00,000/-, it was exchanged with the former Quarters (the one at the junction). The District provided Rs. 20,00,000/- for the construction of the Quarters, and the Section congregation worked very hard. With additional funding provided by the District, it is now nearly completed for occupation.
