CEC
HOW IT STARTED:
On April 27th, 1990, during the 25th District Conference held at the Headquarters UPC Sunday School Hall, an official agenda was introduced proposing 'Let a school be established.' After thorough deliberation among the assembled conference delegates, the 25th District Conference passed the resolution to establish the school. This Conference further decided that 'The school shall be an English Medium school, starting from nursery, and the remaining implementation shall be entrusted to the District Board.' As the implementation was entrusted to the District Board following the District Conference's approval, the 87th District Board meeting (Resolution No. 4) held on April 30th, 1990 at the Headquarters Church immediately formed a Managing Board Committee. This Managing Board took immediate steps to plan the future course of the school. On June 20th, 1990 at 6:30 A.M., the first Board meeting convened and made decisions regarding the opening date, venue, school stages (number of classes), school name, and school furniture. THE EXACT DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT: The 1st School Board, Resolution No. 1, resolved: 'As passed by the District Conference (1990), we agree that the school should be opened as soon as possible. It should start in the regular 1991 School Session. Regarding the location, we unanimously agree to start the school in the lower section of our Quarters currently under construction (Treasurer’s Quarters) and the portion occupied by the Treasurer.' The exact establishment date was not specifically mentioned, but in the 4th School Board meeting held on Nov 28th, 1990 at Chanmari Sunday School Hall, Resolution No. 1 recorded as follows: "NUMBER OF TEACHERS TO BE RECRUITED: We considered how many teachers to recruit and agreed to hire 4 teachers for now. Before appointing a regular Principal, 1 person should take charge, starting work on December 1st, 1990 to oversee admissions. The person taking charge as Principal shall be appointed during the general teacher appointment. Furthermore, appointments should be temporary according to government guidelines, and all teachers except the Principal should start on February 1st, 1991." The teacher taking charge as Principal began work handling admissions on December 1st, 1990, while other teachers appear to have joined on February 1st, 1991. Thus, February 1st, 1991—the day other teachers joined—is considered the actual commencement of school operations and is generally accepted as the school's establishment date (anniversary). However, December 1st, 1990—when the Principal-in-charge started managing admissions—can also be regarded as the starting date of the school. NUMBER OF CLASSES OPENED: The 25th District Conference resolved to start from Nursery. The 2nd School Board, Resolution No. 1, subsequently decided to open classes up to Class-II. From then on, additional classes were added every year as follows: • 1991: Nursery to Class – II • 1992: Class – III • 1993: Class – IV • 1994: Class – V • 1996: Class – VI • 1997: Class – VII • 2010: Class – VIII • 2011: Class – IX • 2012: Class – X • 2016: Class – XI • 2017: Class – XII TEACHING STAFF: In the beginning, due to various reasons, teacher resignations and new appointments were frequent. Between the first Board in 1991 and the 34th Board in the year 2000, teacher matters were deliberated over 30 times, and numerous times thereafter. The school also functioned without a regular Principal for a considerable period. The first regular Principal appointed by the Board was CT. Biakthansanga, who was given an appointment by the 2nd Board on February 7th, 1992. However, after serving for only about 3 months, he submitted his resignation, after which the school again functioned without a regular Principal for some time. Matters concerning the Principal alone were discussed more than 10 times by the School Board prior to the year 2000. The 2nd School Board decided that '5 teachers should be recruited, and board members should search for candidates.' Fixed salaries were established: Graduate – Rs 1800; Matric & PUC – Rs 1400; Under Matric – Rs 1000. Perhaps because board members could not readily find teachers, the 3rd Board resolved to issue an advertisement. The 4th Board reiterated that 4 teachers should be recruited. Out of 22 applicants, 17 were interviewed. The interview process carried 100 marks for Personal Interview and 50 marks for Written Test. The following were selected as the first teachers: 1) F. VL. Malsawma, Thakthing Veng, Aizawl 2) F. Lalhmingsangi, Chanmari, Lunglei 3) Malawmi (Helena), Bazar Veng, Lunglei 4) PC. Lalrotluangi, Pangzawl. Among them, F. Lalhmingsangi took charge as Principal, making her the first person to hold the title of Principal. Staff (Teaching & Non-Teaching) as of November 2024: 1) P. Samson Vanlalfela (Principal) 2) R. Lalnunthara (Vice Principal) 3) C. Lalrosanga 4) J. Vanlalruatsaka 5) Lalramhmuaka Sailo 6) LH. Lalremsanga 7) K. Lalrammawia (Warden) 8) PC. Zothanzuala 9) Biakrempuii 10) Lalengkimi Hnamte 11) Lalneihpuii Pachuau 12) Lalhmunsiami Chawngthu 13) K. Vanlalvenhimi 14) C. Lalhmunmawii 15) H. Lalhmachhuani (Warden) 16) V. Lalhualhimi 17) H. Lalhruaitluangi 18) CV. Lalrammuani 19) LH. Biaknunnemi 20) Lalmuanpuii (MDM Cook) 21) P. Lalsiamliana (MDM Cook) 22) Zionharhnasangpuii (MDM Cook) 23) Lalmuanawmi (MDM Cook) MANAGEMENT, FEES AND ADMISSION: The first day of opening admissions at CEC School was December 3rd, 1990, and it remained open throughout December. At its inception, Tuition Fee (Monthly Fee) was set at Rs 50 per student. Current Fee Structure (2024): Admission Fee: Fresh – Rs 2,500 Renewal – Rs 2,000 Monthly Fee: Day Scholar: • Kg I & II - Rs 600 • Class I – VIII – Rs 700 • Class IX – XII – Rs 900 Hosteller: • Class VIII & below – Rs 5,000 • Class IX & above - Rs 5,500 Concession Policy: • Children of Church Workers - 50% • Full-time - 25% • 3rd sibling among 3 - Half fee • 4th sibling among 4 - Free (3rd sibling half fee) BUILDING & INFRASTRUCTURE: At the beginning, the 1st Board decided that 'The school shall start in the lower section of our Quarters under construction (Treasurer Qtrs) and the Treasurer's residence.' As per the Board's resolution, classes were held in the District Treasurer Quarters and the Headquarters Sunday School Hall (currently the Church Office, District Headquarters, Chanmari). As classes were added annually, space became increasingly constrained, leading the 13th Board to note that 'In the coming year 1994, our current building will no longer accommodate us, so this matter should be submitted to the District Board for alternative arrangements.' Consequently, under leadership arrangements, the school was relocated in January 1997 to its present premises (as of 2024). By 2024, the top floor including rooms for Classes X, XI & XII has been fully completed. At present, the school boasts 14 well-equipped classrooms. SCHOOL NAME AND MOTTO: The 1st School Board opened invitations for proposed school names, receiving the following suggestions: 1) Christian Education Centre 2) Delight School 3) Audrene Scism Memorial 4) Foundation Home From these 4 options, the 4th Board on Nov 28th, 1990 selected Christian Education Centre as the official name. Furthermore, suggestions for the School Motto were invited, and 'Marching on the Top' was chosen. UNIFORM: The School Uniform was first considered by the 4th Board on Nov 28th, 1990, where it was decided that 'uniform details shall be discussed with teachers once recruited.' Initially, the uniform consisted of grey trousers/skirt, white shirt, grey necktie with red stripes (initially solid red was used), and white socks with red stripes. By the 25th anniversary during the 2015-2016 Session, the uniform transitioned to our current design: solid green trousers for boys (green skirt with white stripes for girls), white shirt, green necktie with white stripes, white socks with two green stripes at the top, and green sweater/pullover. BOARDING/HOSTEL: On July 3rd, 1996, the 22nd Board (Resolution No. 4) considered whether 'the school should operate solely as a Day School or offer Boarding upon moving into the new building?' Since this exceeded the School Board's mandate, it was referred to the District Board. On Jan 8th, 1997, the 23rd School Board decided 'to initially arrange 10 hostel beds for students.' However, boarding was not started at that time. On Oct 27th, 2006, the 63rd Board (Resolution No. 2) recorded: "Hostel Management: Having discussed this matter, it is agreed that given our current building and financial status, implementation should be deferred for now." Subsequently, following Resolution No. 1 of the 70th Board on Dec 6th, 2007 (Tue), Boarding/Hostel operations commenced. The first Cook, Lalfamkimi of Lunglawn, was given a temporary appointment on Feb 5th, 2008 at a monthly salary of Rs 1000. First Warden: The 70th Board appointed serving teacher R. Lalhmingthanga as the first Warden, but due to personal difficulties, he was unable to take up the role. Wardens were subsequently appointed from among male teachers as follows: • 1st – R. Lalnunthara • 2nd – Lalnunmawia Fanai • 3rd – J. Vanlalruatsaka • 4th – R. Lalhmingthanga SCHOOL STATUS & RECOGNITION: 1) Our school is duly registered under Firms and Societies, with registration number MSR 471 of 08.10.2012. 2) Official School Permission was granted by the Government of Mizoram on February 2nd, 1997. 3) Recognition was granted by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on February 27th, 2003. 4) From October 1st, 2008, the Middle Section was upgraded to Lump-sum Grant-in-Aid status.
