About TUIPUI SOUTH LOCAL

Initiatives for Establishing the Church:

Prior to 1988, no church had been established in Tuipui 'D' village, whereas the UPC Church was already established in Muallianpui and S. Vanlaiphai. Pastor used to stop by for tea break and lunch while touring the pastoral district. When Rev. Lalchhara was the Hnahthial district pastor, learning that UPC members had moved into Tuipui D, he would visit and converse with them. Elder R. Biakmawia (L) of Hnahthial Tarpho Local also earnestly encouraged them.

When the number reached 4 or 5 families, on 28.2.1988, their desire to establish a church was conveyed to the Pastor. The Hnahthial District Board promptly deliberated on it, and on 6.3.1988 at 7:00 AM at the home of Bro. Savunga, under the leadership of District Pastor Rev. Lalchhara (L), 'UPC Tuipui 'D' Local' was officially established.

To enable the establishment of the church, Bro. Savunga worked tirelessly together with the following individuals:

1. C. Aihranga
2. C. Dengkunga
3. Daniela
4. Cheuluaia

Early Church Leaders:

When the church was established, valuable gifts were received from within the district. The District Pastor immediately formed the Church, and the following were the early leaders:

Elders : Upa C. Dengkunga, Upa Savunga
Church Workers : Bro. Aihranga, Bro. Daniela, Bro Cheuliana.

Church Board Office Bearers:

Chairman : Upa C. Dengkunga
Secretary : Cheuliana
Treasurer : Daniela

Missions Department:

Director/Secretary/Treasurer : Upa Savunga

Sunday School:

Director/Secretary/Treasurer : Bro. C. Aihranga

At the time of church establishment, there were 17 members.

Acquisition & Construction of Church Building:

A application for church land was submitted to and obtained from the Village Council (VC). In 1989, voluntary labor (hnatlang) was organized to level the church plot. During the construction of the first church, generous monetary and material donations were received from across the Hnahthial district. Corrugated iron sheets for the roof were received from the District. Construction began in June 1990. On 5 June 1992, services were held in the new church building, presided over by Upa Savunga, with Upa C. Aihranga delivering the sermon.

On 14.2.1996, the Church Board Meeting decided to seek a new church site. Church member C. Nghakzuala generously donated his plot in Bangalow veng for the church site, which brought great joy to the church. As a token of gratitude, Rs. 1000 was presented to him. Numerous voluntary work sessions were held to level the plot, and a bulldozer was hired at an expense of Rs. 1,050. The church building was constructed measuring 36 ft in length and 21 ft in width. The posts, beams, and skirting were built with concrete.

On 10.10.2002, the Church Board Committee resolved: "Since constructing an RCC church building is difficult, let the current construction be completed as Assam-type for now." The church members contributed immensely in terms of finances and labor. Bro V. Vanlalsanga submitted an application to the Church Board stating, "I consider building this church as a task given to me by God; please allow me to construct it free of cost." The Church Board Committee gratefully accepted, and the church building was successfully completed.

On the evening of Friday, 5 June 2015, the Building Committee decided to construct a new church. Materials were collected immediately. The church was planned to be 45 ft in length and 24 ft in width. Divided into groups, the construction has now been completed. In July 2015, a bank loan of Rs. 1,00,000 was taken, and the church was laboriously built through voluntary work. On 11 June 2018, an additional loan of Rs. 1,50,000 was taken.

Notable Events:

1. On 6.3.2013, the Silver Jubilee was celebrated, with Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte, District Superintendent, and Rev. C. Darkhuma, District Treasurer attending from the District. Pastoral district leaders and numerous members from across the district joined in celebrating with us.

2. The 2019 Christmas and 2020 New Year feast was hosted and prepared for the church by Pu K. Tlanghmingthanga and his family, for which we are deeply grateful.
