ABOUT MUALTHUAM ‘N’ VILLAGE
Mualthuam ‘N’ village is located along the World Bank Road between Lunglei and Aizawl, approximately 48 km from Lunglei. Being a historical and well-established village, it is a pleasantly large and comfortable rural settlement. At present, there are 370 households with a total village population of around 1,700 residents.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CHURCH
In 1961, Pu Saihnuna and his fellow ministry companions brought the gospel message to Mualthuam ‘N’ village, conducting a vibrant ministry. As a result of their labor, the United Pentecostal Church (UPC) was established on July 17, 1961, with around 68 charter members at its inception. Despite facing numerous hardships from its founding to the present day, the fire of Pentecost has never been extinguished, and the church continues to stand firm.
Mualthuam ‘N’ Venglai Local was originally named ‘Mualthuam ‘N’ Local UPC’. As time passed and Electric Local was formed as a separate church, its name was changed to ‘Mualthuam ‘N’ Vengchhak Local’, a title it retained for many years. Later on, following community administrative reorganizations, it officially adopted the name ‘Mualthuam ‘N’ Venglai UPC’ on February 3, 2018.

CHRONOLOGY OF CHURCH BUILDINGS
The present church land was generously donated by the family of late Pu Darkhuma (father of Pu F. Zochama, Pukpui), for which the congregation remains deeply grateful. The sanctuary has been rebuilt several times. Regarding its orientation, their Prophet Pu Chhumhanga stated, "It must face eastward," so the initial structure was built facing east, with the orientation altering across subsequent rebuilds:
- 1st Church Building : Constructed in 1962, the first church building was built facing east.
- 2nd Church Building : The second sanctuary was constructed in 1969, built facing north.
- 3rd Church Building : Built in 1981, the third church building was once again constructed facing east (sunrise).
- 4th Church Building : Constructed in 1991 as a standard Assam-type building, considered fine and beautiful for its time. It was built facing north.
- 5th Church Building : Construction for the fifth sanctuary commenced in 2008, built facing east. Constructed as a reinforced concrete (RCC) structure costing around Rs. 17 lakhs, it serves as the current house of worship occupied today.
HISTORICAL NOTABLE EVENTS
Period of Church Litigation & Closure : On Wednesday, March 13, 1996, internal disputes within the church community led to the sealing of the church building and subsequent court litigation. During the closure period, services were held at the residences of the following believers:
- Bro. Zazawna
- Elder V. Vanlalngena
- Elder PC. Lalzuithanga
- Rbt. Vanhluna
- Bro. C. Lalhruaia
This occurred while attached to the Haulawng Section under Section Pastor Rev. PC. Nghakliana. Deprived of worshipping in their sanctuary for a long duration, an Interim Order on Sunday, June 9, 1996, temporarily reopened the church for a short period. Subsequently, on Friday, January 21, 2000, at 3:00 PM, a Judgment Order was delivered ruling in favor of the local church. However, immediate reopening was deferred due to a 90-day appeal window granted to the petitioners. As no appeal was filed, the sanctuary was officially reopened by Rev. Zalawma on Sunday, May 21, 2000, with services held immediately.
On Monday, May 22, 2000, a grand thanksgiving service and celebration feast were joyfully conducted to give praise to God. The congregation expressed immense gratitude to ADMJ Magistrate Pi Lucy for delivering the Judgment Order that restored the sanctuary to them. Under God's guidance, the church has continued its faithful journey smoothly to this day.
Golden Jubilee : Reaching its 50th anniversary smoothly, the church celebrated its Golden Jubilee on July 17, 2011. Then District Secretary Rev. C. Vanlalena unveiled the Jubilee Monument, and the milestone was celebrated joyfully with both spiritual and physical feasts.
