About ZOBAWK LOCAL

INITIATIVES FOR ESTABLISHING THE CHURCH :

In 1966, Mizoram experienced political disturbance, due to which the following eight (8) villages were regrouped into Zobawk Village. These were: Dawn, Chengpui, Ralvawng, Hlumte, Sairep, Bualte, Thangpui, and Zotui (Pukpui).

Among the early arrivals from Dawn village to Zobawk, there were a few existing UPC members. Though an official local church was not yet established, these members held gatherings and organized worship services in convenient private residences. However, since the church was not formally established yet, whenever a UPC member passed away, Elder C. Lalruata conducted the funeral services. As worship services continued smoothly, vigorous plans were set in motion to formally establish the UPC Church immediately.

Several key figures pioneered the establishment of the church, among whom the principal leaders were:

(1) Pu Aikhuma - Dawn
(2) Pu Rochhinga - Dawn
(3) Pu Thanmawia - Dawn
(4) Pu Chalzama - Dawn
(5) Pu C. Lalruata - Dawn
(6) Pu R. Liannawla - Dawn
(7) Pu Rualkhuma - Ralvawng
(8) Pu Dochhuma โ€“ Chengpui

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF CHURCH BUILDING CONSTRUCTION :

Starting from 1969, land for the church was acquired and construction began immediately. It was built with bamboo woven walls (dap) and a thatched roof (di). In 1976, the walls were replaced with wall tiles. In 1978, construction of a new church building commenced as a Semi-RCC structure, and this new church was occupied in 1980. Subsequently, as the existing building was deemed inadequate, initiatives were taken in 1999 to construct a new church. By God's guidance, construction was completed swiftly, and it was occupied in the year 2000. As time progressed, with the desire for a better and more permanent church building, construction of an RCC church building commenced in 2006. It was occupied by mid-2009. Due to continuous growth in membership, the church building was extended in 2017. The current church area measures 70 Feet in length by 45 Feet in width.
