About ZODIN LOCAL

Establishment of the Church

As government offices and key establishments were gradually set up in the Zodin area of Tlabung, government employees residing in the town, existing UPC members from other villages, and government personnel increasingly moved toward Zodin. Initially, under the leadership of Pu B. Lalhema (Civil SDO, Tlabung), residents worshiped together in a single church without denomination-specific divisions. However, due to differing doctrinal convictions, worshiping together permanently became unsustainable, leading to the establishment of Zodin Local UPC with the consent of Tlabung Local. On Sunday, September 19, 1982, the men gathered at the residence of Pu Chhota (Zodin) under the leadership of Elder Lianthangpuia, Elder of Tlabung Local, and officially established Zodin Local UPC.

Pioneer Church Leaders

On September 19, 1982, the initial leadership was appointed as follows:

  • Chairman : Pu Zahranga
  • Secretary : Pu Lalhmingsanga
  • Asst. Secretary : Pu Lalkhuma
  • Treasurer : Pu R. Siamhlira

Committee Members :
Pu Chhota, Pu Lunghnema, and Pu Liankhuma. During its inception, the church had approximately 40 members. As they did not yet possess a church building, services were held at the residence of Pu Chhota.

On November 1, 1982, a committee meeting was held at the residence of Pu Lunghnema, presided over by Sectional Pastor Hualzika (Lungsen Section). The following individuals were ordained/installed as church workers:

  1. Zahranga
  2. R. Siamhlira
  3. Lalkhuma
  4. Lallunghnema
  5. K. Ngaihzuala
  6. Chhota
  7. Lalhmingsanga

During the early days of the church, members were highly enthusiastic, joyfully contributing vegetables and various items to raise church funds.

Acquisition of Land and Church Building

An application for a church land site was submitted to the government. Since the designated plot was vacant, construction of the church building commenced prior to the formal issuance of the land pass. Built through voluntary community labor (hnatlang) alongside members of Tlabung Local, significant financial resources and labor were invested. In November 1982, the first church building measuring 24x18 feet was completed and occupied, featuring a thatched roof, woven bamboo walls, and an earthen floor.

On December 12, 1983, the government issued land land pass (Order LRDA-132/83/2 MISC Pass No 2 of 1983) covering an area of approximately 1,875 square meters, bringing great joy to the congregation.
