As per the resolution of the 1993 District Conference to carve out a new Section from existing local churches under Bunghmun Section and Sertlangpui Section, Rev. Saithanga Sailo, the then District Secretary, inaugurated the Thenhlum Section on 01.04.1993 and conducted the Pastor induction service. He was assisted by Rev. CS. Pachhunga, District Sunday School Director. The local churches included under Thenhlum Section upon its inauguration were:

4. Tuisenchhuah
5. Thenhlum

Thenhlum was designated as the District Centre. Pastor MS Dawngliana served as the first District Pastor.

PASTOR QUARTERS:

Shortly after the establishment of Thenhlum Section, construction of the Pastor Quarters began, and it was ready for occupation in 1993. Several years later, in 2012, a new Quarters was constructed and completed within the same year. The District and the local church of Thenhlum contributed greatly through physical labor.

Current Section Status:

At present (2025), there are 3 local churches in Thenhlum Section, which are:

1. Thenhlum Local
2. Changpui Local
3. Lungchem Local

There are currently 393 church members within the Section.

Around 1962, there was a desire to establish a separate church building from BCM in Changpui village. Although the momentum seemed to fade for a while, in the latter half of 1964, two young women, Malsawmi and Thanchungnungi, went to Lunglei, joined the UPC, and were baptized.

Before the establishment of the UPC Church in Changpui, ministers including Pastor Tebawnga and his team, Evan Lalhranga, Pastor Hrangchhina, and Evan Zabuaia visited the area. Through the ministry of Evan Zabuaia, the Lord called out Mr. Seikunga and his wife, as well as Mr. Thandaia and his wife, leading to the formation of the church. At that time, there were only 7 members. Shortly after, Mr. C. Chawngzuala and his family, along with Mr. C. Zakunga and his family, joined from BCM. Mr. C. Chawngzuala was an active BCM worker and was immediately appointed as a church minister.

In 1966, a church building made of bamboo matting (maurap) was constructed; in total, four (4) bamboo churches were built over time. Later on, three wooden churches were also constructed. The fifth construction occurred while under Sertlangpui District, which was dedicated in the name of Jesus by District Pastor PC. Lalrosanga. Following this, when the village relocated down along the main road, a new church building was constructed again. This building was dedicated in the name of Jesus by District Pastor MS Dawngliana upon the official opening of the new Thenhlum District.

On 04.05.1998, construction began on the current church building without demolishing the old one, proceeding gradually. It measures 34 feet in length and 21 feet in width, with cement skirting. In 2002, the construction was fully completed. Before moving into the new church building, Evan C. Lalvuana offered a prayer of dedication to God.
