About DARZO LOCAL
Darzo Village :
Darzo village is an old and established village. It is located 40 Km east of Hnahthial; in Darzo village, there are currently over 250 houses with a population of around 1,300 people.
Previous initiatives to establish the UPC Church :
Being one of the large and important villages in Lunglei District, so that a Church could indeed be established, the Lunglei District Main Church previously stationed Evan. J. Thanhmunga of S. Mualcheng to reside and minister on-site. Furthermore, much later, Rev. Saithanga Sailo, Evan. C. Vanlalena, C. Vanlalzamveli, C. Vanlalrawni, and Evan. C. Lalnunmawia carried out ministry work with utmost effort.
In 2008, Evan. R. Lalmawia of Hnahthial stayed continuously due to his departmental work (Forest Dept.), constructing a Hall; he felt a deep burden, and while working during the day, he visited and chatted with people at their homes in the evening. Through his ministry, he was able to touch the hearts of several people. On 11.2.2008, the then District Treasurer Rev. R. Lalrosanga and Hnahthial Section Pastor C. Lalhriatpuia entered to conduct a Crusade, with Evan. R. Lalmawia supporting with all his effort. Resulting from their ministry, the Church was formed as an Adhoc body. Those appointed as its leaders were:
- Chairman : Ramhmangaiha.
- Secretary : H.Laldinmawia
- Treasurer : Chhuansanga
(This Adhoc formation and its appointed leaders did not go very far, fading away temporarily without reaching full church maturity)
The Church is established :
On 2.5.2008, using new District Secretary Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte as the Speaker, another Crusade was held, accompanied by as many as 12 people. After that, on 7.6.2008, new District Treasurer Rev. C. Lalhriatpuia and new Hnahthial Section Pastor Rev. PC. Nghakliana entered for a Crusade again, accompanied by Evan. R. Lalmawia and several others. Out of their loving ministry, the Church came into being. On 8th June, 2008, Rev. PC. Nghakliana officially organized it into a full church. The leaders appointed then were:
Main Church :
- Chairman : Upa Hrangzama
- Secretary : Upa R.Ramhluna
- Treasurer : Upa Ramhluna
- Tithe Treasurer : Rbt. H.Laldinmawia
Sunday School Department :
- Superintendent : Upa R.Ramhluna
- Treasurer : Sist. K.Lalngaihsaki
- Adult Teacher : Upa R.Ramhluna
- Children Teacher : ZD. Lalrobuangi
Regarding Church site :
When the Church was established, a search for a church site immediately began. Thus, Pu Rohmingliana's former house plot was requested for purchase, and after coming to an agreement, it was bought for Rs. 14,000/-. Forest R.O Upa PC. Lalthankima funded this site purchase, for which the church members were very grateful.
Once they obtained the site, several people led by District Secretary Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte went up from Lunglei to prepare the site, and several others came up from Hnahthial to excavate the site; the church members were greatly encouraged by their support.
Church building construction process :
1st Church Building :
As permitted by the District, donations were collected in various places across town for their church construction. These donation drives were arranged by Hnahthial section leaders and Evan. C. Lalnunmawia. The roof of their church was provided by the District Main Church, while the walling was funded by LDF Cable owner Pu Lalduhthlanga, who also bought a very good PA Set. The church members were truly grateful. Under God's guidance, they successfully completed a fine Assam-type church building.
2nd Church Building :
The foundation stone for their currently occupied church building was laid on 17th December 2016 by Section Pastor Jerry Lalmuanawma, and construction began immediately. They also received Rs. 1,50,000 as construction assistance from the District. The church members worked very hard. Afterwards, the District Board supported them twice with Rs. 50,000/- each time, reaching where they are today.
Notable events in the Church worth recording :
In 2010, during a praise gathering at Pu CL. Neihkhuma's house led by Pu Biakmawia, the presence of the Holy Spirit descended powerfully, and we received a great spiritual empowerment; our singing of spiritual songs which started at 6:00 pm in the evening could only end at 10:00 pm at night.
In 2014, during a fellowship gathering at Upa R. Ramhluna's house, a rich spiritual feast was shared, and during this time, all Elders and ministers received new spiritual names.
On 8th June, 2018, the 10th anniversary of the Church's establishment was joyfully celebrated.
