About THUAMPUI LOCAL

The earliest establishment date of Thuampui UPC Church that can be found in the church records is 18th February 1961. According to another account, some state that it was established during the 1959 Mautam famine year. Since it is difficult to ascertain the exact truth now, the written record is deemed more reliable. Its founders are as follows:

1. Pu Kapliana
2. Pu Kawlnia
3. Pu Lalhranga
4. Pu Dokhuma
5. Pu Suakhnuna

We are unable to know their official designations/positions. At this time, the membership was counted to be around 30 members.

In earlier times, the Sertlangpui District was known as the Thuampui District, and Thuampui served as the District Center. From February 1981 onwards, it was named the Sertlangpui District.

Among the founders, the person whose history is best known to us is Pu Kawlnia. He was someone who deeply loved the Church; when the villagers were regrouped towards Hauruang during the political insurgency, he prioritized the church property—such as large pots, brass gongs, and drums—even over his personal belongings, carrying them down to the regrouping site at Hauruang with great effort. When returning home after regrouping, he carried all these items back himself. To this day, his children continue to be very useful members of the Church.

Because the membership was small when the church was first established, the auxiliary departments (PYD and LAD) were not formed immediately alongside the main church; they were established later as the Church grew more established. Their founding details are as follows:

L.A.D :

The exact founding date of the LAD is not found in church records; after inquiring with knowledgeable elders, it is believed to be around 24.10.1976, which the Local Church approved and has observed as their anniversary day ever since. In 2025, they currently have 57 members.

P.Y.D :

The exact year of its founding cannot be ascertained either, but according to what we learned from senior members, it is believed to have been established in 1965. As the exact date and month of its establishment are not clearly known, the Church Board approved April 22nd as its founding date. It has been continually celebrated as Local PYD Day to this day. This year in 2025, they have 64 members.

P.C.D :

PCD was established on 10th October 1997. They continue to function smoothly to this day. Currently, they have 50 members.
