About DENGSUR LOCAL

STEPS TAKEN TOWARDS THE FORMATION OF THE CHURCH:

For the establishment of the Pentecostal Church on Dengsur hill, dedicated and committed individuals have laboured tirelessly in ministry. Due to the lack of proper records, it is difficult to detail every exact event. Around 1987-88, Evan. R. Lallianzuala of Sertlangpui ministered here. Evangelist Rohlira also ministered from Buarpui around 1993-94. Furthermore, Evan. B. Kamliana also ministered from Buarpui around 1998-2000. In addition, Pastor Lianhranga, while serving as the Pastor in charge of Sertlangpui District, ministered here around 1987-88. During these times, a baptismal pool was opened for the first time, and 8 people received baptism. They were six adults and two children. Those who received baptism were:

1. Bro. Tlangthata    2) Bro. H. Biaktluanga    3) Sist. Biaktluangi
4) Bro. Lalenga    5) Sist. Zosangi    6) Sist. Lianveli
7) Lalchawiliani    8) Vanlalhmangaihi.

Those who were baptized in the name of Jesus around 1987-89 fellowshiped together as best as they could, mostly gathering at the homes of H. Biaktluanga and Lalenga. However, for a period of time, they experienced a lack of visitation and fell behind somewhat. Following that, ministry work resumed, and through gradual efforts, the membership increased slightly once more. Thus, several Evangelists continued to minister, and as clearly reflected in the Church records, the actual establishment of Dengsur Church took place as follows.

ESTABLISHMENT / FORMATION OF THE CHURCH:

On Tuesday, 15th November 2011, District Superintendent Rev. R. Lalrosanga laid the foundation stone of the Church building and officially formed the Church at the home of Bro. H. Biaktluanga. Bro. H. Biaktluanga, Bro. Lalenga, and Pc. Remliana of S. Khawlek attended this church formation service. Evan. Simona Hmar served as the Minute Secretary. District Pastor R. Vanlalenga and District Treasurer Upa. H. Hmunsanga also joined us.

District Superintendent Rev. R. Lalrosanga expressed his joy at establishing the UPC in a place where it had never been established since the creation of the earth, and the initial church leaders were as follows:

Church Elders:

1) Upa. H. Biaktluanga    2) Upa. PC. Remliana of S. Khawlek

Church Board:

  • Chairman : Upa. H. Biaktluanga
  • Secretary/Treasurer : Bro. Simona Hmar, Field Evangelist
  • Church Board members : Upa PC. Remliana, Upa H. Biaktluanga, Bro. Lalenga, Bro. Simona Hmar, Bro. H. Vanlalzawna.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHURCH BUILDING:

On Tuesday evening, 15th November 2011 at 4:30 PM, District Superintendent Rev. R. Lalrosanga laid the foundation stone for the Church building. On 16th November 2011, concrete pillars were cast immediately, and work camps were conducted both at the Local and District levels. After striving with all our effort, occupancy of the Church building commenced on Sunday, 12th February 2012. We were all immensely joyful to finally gather for worship in the Dengsur UPC Church building for the first time since the creation of the earth.

For the church building project, we received generous help and donations from individuals, the local church, and the District level, as well as Rs. 1,27,400 from the Lunglei District Main Church. This is the church building we continue to occupy to this day.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

Dengsur Church was declared a Mission Field under the Lunglei District Missions Department starting in 2011, though even before it was declared, workers were being sent under District engagement. Those who have served as Evangelists in Dengsur are:

  1. Evan. Lianhmingthanga of Zobawk (2008 – District Missions engagement)
  2. Evan. Lallianbuanga of Vanhne (2009 – District engagement)
  3. Evan. R. Lalthlamuana of Sekhum (2010 – District engagement)
  4. Evan. Simona Hmar of Sertlangpui (2011-2014 – District engagement)
  5. Bro. Vanlallawma of Lungmawi (2015-2016)

Furthermore, our status as a Mission Field was ended in 2016. Fortuitously, in 2017, around 30 members including our church workers moved up from Darngawn village. Thus, standing on its own feet, the church currently has approximately 70 members (2025 report).

2025-2026 Local Leaders:

  • Chairman : Upa PC. Lianzika
  • Secretary : Upa R. Vanlalfaka
  • Treasurer : Upa H. Lalbiaktluanga
