About ZOHNUAI LOCAL

HISTORY OF ZOHNUAI LOCAL

In 1975, three adult men—Pu K. Lungmuana, Pu C. Chawngzika, and Pu PC. Rohmingthanga—began taking steps to establish the UPC Church in Zohnuai. They gathered for the very first time at the residence of Pu PC. Rohmingthanga on the evening of September 12, 1975, filled with enthusiasm and joy. For the second time, on September 27, 1975, they met again, this time at the house of Pu C. Chawngzika, where they decided to gather the names of individuals who wished to become members. Pu PC. Rohmingthanga quickly compiled the list of prospective members. For the third time, they gathered at the house of Pu K. Lungmuana on Friday evening, October 17, 1975. During this time, Sist. Thandawngi, a revivalist visiting from Cherhlun, was present and expressed great enthusiasm for establishing the church; she insisted, "Let us establish it right away while I am here." Due to her persistent request, on that very night (October 17, 1975) at 8:00 PM, the United Pentecostal Church (U.P.C) was officially established in Zohnuai village.

Establishment of the Church and Its Leaders: At the time of establishment, the church comprised 39 members from five (5) families. Leaders were duly appointed, including the Elders: Elder K. Lungmuana, Elder C. Chawngzika, and Elder PC. Rohmingthanga. The Church Board was formed immediately with the following appointments:
1. Chairman : Elder K. Lungmuana
2. Secretary : Elder PC. Rohmingthanga

Upon completing their organizational setup, they held a corporate prayer of thanksgiving to God and dismissed joyfully. These organizational details were reported to the District leadership, who accepted their submission with pleasure.

When the church was established, the following were immediately appointed as Church Board members: Sister B. Hnawkchuaii and Sister Lalnunnemi. Development of the Church Building: Following the establishment of the church, a search for a church building plot began immediately. The congregation utilized the residence of Elder PC. Rohmingthanga as a fellowship location for over a year. Towards the end of 1976, the church site was finalized, and preparations began; that same year, a church building walled with bamboo mats was constructed.

In 1979, a new church building was constructed using bamboo matting once again. In 1984, preparations for another new church building commenced; on this occasion, Pastor H. Lalruata raised Rs. 3,000 from the U.S.A. for the roof, for which the congregation was deeply grateful. Having acquired CGI tin sheet roofing, the church building was named Apostolic Temple.

When the time arrived for rebuilding once more, plans for a new church building were initiated starting June 9, 2009. Brother KT. Nghawra contributed Rs. 2,00,000, Brother K. Lalrinawma donated 5,000 bricks from Kawmzawl, half of the roofing costs were covered by the District, and the remaining half was provided by Brother Lalduhthlanga of Pukpui. Following smooth construction, it was completed in March 2010.

The RCC church building currently occupied measures 40 by 23 feet and features a beautiful, unique design. In 2013, District Superintendent Rev. C. Vanlalena officiated its dedication and inauguration to God.
