About LUNGSEN SOUTH LOCAL
Lungsen Village :
Lungsen is a pleasant village located west of Lunglei, situated between Lunglei and Tlabung. It is about 57 KM away from Lunglei. It serves as a Block Development Officer (BDO) headquarters, currently comprising around 550 households and a population of approximately 2,700 people.
Establishment of UPC Lungsen South :
Prior to the establishment of Lungsen Chhimveng Church, the UPC had already been established in Lungsen Hmarveng. However, due to political disturbance (rambuai), surrounding villages were regrouped into the southern part of Lungsen in 1968. Those who were already UPC members among the regrouped villagers established the UPC Church in the southern locality (Chhimveng) of Lungsen.
Early Leaders :
The church leaders at the time of establishing the UPC Lungsen South Church were as follows:
| Chairman | Pu Lalliana |
| Secretary | Pu Dengvuana |
| Treasurer | Pu Chuaungura |
Ministers / Workers : P. Liantluanga, LP. Liankhuma, Lalbiaa, Lalhluta, Selthanga, Chhuanvawra, Lianchhunga
As time went on and the political situation eased into relative peace, the government issued permission allowing people from the regrouped villages to return to their respective homes. Consequently, most people returned to their home villages. As a result, around 1969–1970, the membership of the Lungsen South Church diminished significantly to a point where it could hardly be counted as a full church assembly.
Re-establishment :
Thus, in 1971, when the church was severely weakened, Rev. Lalthima took the initiative with great zeal to reorganize and form the church anew. The date on which Rev. Lalthima reorganized the church, April 15, 1971, was officially accepted as the founding date of Lungsen Hmarveng UPC.
Development of the Church Building :
After nearly a year without a church building, construction of a house of worship commenced, and in 1972, the first church building was completed and occupied. After the church building was rebuilt four times over the years, work on the current building began on March 28, 2001. Measuring 56 feet in length and 33 feet in width, it was constructed with dedicated effort and significant financial and labor resources. On June 11, 2014, the District Superintendent, Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte, officially dedicated and opened it to God.
The front facade of the church has been continuously beautified, and they maintain a spacious and well-kept church compound, currently possessing a solid and well-equipped church structure.
